<p>Do you want to work with young children in a nursery, creche or as a childminder?</p>
<p>We offer a range of childcare courses from Entry Level to Level 3 that will help you reach your goal.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>ESOL for Work in Childcare</strong> is delivered at Entry 3. These courses will introduce you to the key aspects of caring for a child while you continue to develop your English language skills. The inclusion of digital skills will prepare you for work in the modern world. As well as learning the skills needed to care for a baby or young child, subjects include setting a routine, healthy lifestyles and the importance of play and learning.</p>

<p><strong>Preparing to work with Children Level 1</strong> is a year-long course that will introduce you to caring for children, ideal if you want to learn the skills and gain a qualification needed to prepare you for working with children. Subjects taught will include child development, communicating with children, engaging children through activities, supporting learning, planning for the care of children’s physical and emotional needs, play and leisure activities and science activities.</p>

<p><strong>Childcare Level 2</strong> is a year-long course that will introduce you to key aspects of childcare and education needed to work with children and young people. As well as giving you valuable life skills it will result in a qualification to help you to progress to the next level of learning. Subjects taught will include child development, safeguarding, an awareness of the importance and value of play for early learning, sensory loss and respecting and valuing children. </p>

<p><strong>Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (EYP) Level 2</strong> is a year-long course which will give you the skills and qualification needed to work in a wide range of Early Years settings, where children are aged 0 to 5 years. Successful completion of this qualification will prepare you to move onto the next level of learning which may include the Level 3 Diploma and other related qualifications or a move into employment. A work placement of one day per week or 6 hours is needed to achieve this qualification and delivery will include a mixture of online and face to face sessions.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) Level 3 is a year-long course which will give you the qualification needed to work in a wide range of Early Years settings, where children are aged 0 to 5 years. This course will also give you the knowledge of children aged 5 to 7. You will need to be working in the sector already and have already gained the Level 2 EYP qualification or equivalent before starting this course. A placement or employment of 15 hours a week is required.</p>

Course requirements
<p>Entry to these courses starts with an informal meeting with your teacher. You will need to be working at a minimum of a Level 2 in your English skills. If you do not have a qualification at Level 2 in English, there will be a short skill check to see the level you are working at.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>There will be an opportunity to join a separate English, maths and digital skills class if you do not already have a Level 2 qualification in these subjects.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>You will need 100% attendance throughout the course to successfully achieve.</p>

How will I learn?
<p>Most sessions will be delivered face-to-face. There will be planned lessons, discussions, group activities, research, tutorials, and practical activities giving you the best experience to prepare you for a move onto the next level of course or into employment. Up to 25% of your course will be independent learning that will involve you carrying out activities outside of the classroom.</p>

<p>For diploma courses you will also learn through your experiences at your work placement and delivery will be more flexible including online sessions where you will learn to use Microsoft Teams.</p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study in the form of written assignments. Your teacher will negotiate assessment plans with you on a regular basis and give you feedback on how well you are doing.</p>
<p>For Diploma courses you will also be observed in your placement or workplace.</p>
<p>You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress. There are no examinations as you will put together a portfolio of evidence that will be assessed by your teacher and moderated externally.</p>
Are there any additional costs?
<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="color:black">For many students the courses will be free and student services will check your eligibility for funding. </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="color:black">You will have to have a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS), which will be free if you are eligible for funding.</span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="color:black">You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders but you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi to enable you to learn at home.</span></span></span></span></p>
What qualification will I get?
