ESOL for Maths will support you to build your language skills in English and become familiar with the words used in everyday mathematics. You will also develop a broader knowledge and understanding of the different topics found in everyday maths so that you can progress to a qualification.

Course details

<p>Maths skills are an essential part of daily life activities. On these courses you will focus on the development of number skills, measurement, shape and space, data handling and problem solving. Alongside your maths skills you will develop important transferable skills including communication, timekeeping and team work all useful for further study and employment.</p>

<p>If you are new to Adult Education and are thinking about developing your number skills why not come along to one of our open days, or if you have access to the internet, visit our website and make an enquiry online (link at the bottom of the page). Or, if you are an existing student sitting your exam this year and wish to progress to the next level, please speak to your teacher directly. </p>

Course requirements

<p>Once you have submitted your enquiry or online application, you will undertake a skills check and speak to a teacher to place you on the most appropriate level course. Make sure you bring your ID or residency evidence with you to the session. </p>

<p>If your first language is not English, an ESOL for Maths course may be more suitable as you will also develop your language skills. </p>

How will I learn?

<p>Classes are face-to-face in the classroom with some opportunities for online homework sessions.? Lessons are interactive with different activities to help you learn, remember and apply your skills in everyday life.  </p>

<p>We offer support sessions and workshops to support your learning throughout the week if you need extra support, practice or a quiet time to keep up if you have a busy home life. </p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Regular progress review meetings with your teacher will be recorded in your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to keep you focused and on track with your learning. Once you have covered all the necessary maths topics, your teacher will prepare you for sitting the test using mock papers under exam conditions. </p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>Maths courses are <strong>free</strong> if you have not already achieved a GSCE in Maths at grade 4 to 9 or C to A*</p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>Successful completion of the course and exam will lead to: </p>

<li>EdExcel/Pearson Functional Skills in Mathematics (at the level you are studying) </li>
<li>AQA GCSE Mathematics</li>
</ul>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p>When you complete your course and achieve the qualification, your teacher will speak to you about the next level course and about other learning opportunities. </p>
