Course details
<p>If you are an adult 19+ with a learning disability and or autism spectrum condition and you have an ambition to get paid employment, a Supported Internship or Supported Employment course may be for you.</p>
<p>These are one-year courses, with time spent between college and a work placement. When it ends, you will have gained skills that will help you to get paid work. Alongside the work placement, you will develop your English, Maths and IT skills as well as learning about the world of work. Work placements are based on your interests and ambitions, and you will be fully supported in the workplace to get the most out of the experience. </p>
<p>We work with individuals, local employers and external agencies to provide tailored support for each student to access the world or work. We work with employers to ensure they have the support needed, including job coaching to enable their student to move into the workplace successfully gradually withdrawing support to providing independence.</p>
<ul>
<li>For a Supported Internship (SI) you will be aged 19 to 24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).</li>
<li>For Supported Employment, you will be aged 19 and over without an EHCP.</li>
</ul>
Course requirements
<p>You do not need any qualifications, but we would like you to have the willingness to learn and the ambition to move towards a paid job.</p>
<p>To apply you will need to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Have a learning disability and or autism spectrum condition</li>
<li>Have ambition to get paid employment when the course ends</li>
<li>Be able to take part for up to 3 and half days per week</li>
<li>You will need to speak to one of our teachers, or to a member of the Student Services team and you may want to bring someone to support you for a face-to-face meeting</li>
<li>We will ask you to complete some starting point activities, to determine your current skills and what you need to work on</li>
</ul>

<li>All students will have a FREE Microsoft 365 account including access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint</li>
<li>Many students will be able to access financial support e.g., travel, course fees, resources</li>
</ul>
How will I learn?
<p>You will take part in projects, group, and individual activities, with support from your teacher and support worker. You will have access to appropriate learning resources and a learning environment suitable to your individual needs.</p>
<p>In addition, there may be online sessions where you will learn to use Microsoft Teams. Skills learned in the classroom will be enhanced by taking part in a work placement.</p>
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study to monitor your progress and to help us identify any areas where you may need support.</p>
<p>You will have an individual learning plan (ILP) that will be completed by you, your teacher and your employer and record your goals and achievements. You will also receive regular feedback and advice from your teacher.</p>
Are there any additional costs?
<p>Both courses are free. You may also be eligible for support towards the cost of travel and resources. Students on the SI may be able to access funds from the 16-18 Bursary. Student Services will be able to advise.</p>
<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders but you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi dongle to enable you to learn at home.</p>
What qualification will I get?
<p>These are non-qualification programmes, but you will gain the skills to move you closer to paid employment.</p>
What will I be able to do after this course?
<p>The aim is to help you progress into paid employment.</p>
<p>Whatever you would like to do, you will receive Information, Advice and Guidance from our staff, to help you make the right choices for you.</p>
