We are taking applications for ESOL for new students. Please complete the application online and you will be contacted or come into our Open Day on Saturday June 21st. It is free to apply but course fees will be advised once a place on a course is offered if they apply.

Course details

<p>This is an application for new students who would like to join an ESOL class in September 2025.  This is not for students who are currently enrolled on an ESOL course with us.</p>

<p>You will be contacted and invited to come for an assessment.</p>

<p>Once you have been assessed you will be contacted about a place on a course.</p>

<p>You may not have to pay for your course if you are unemployed or employed and have a low income. If you do have to pay, it may be a discounted fee. Student Services will be happy to advise you on whether or not you may have to pay for your ESOL course.</p>

Course requirements

<p>No qualifications are needed but if you have studied ESOL before it is important to tell us.  </p>

<p>We will check your level to make sure you are in the right class.   </p>

<p>You will need to attend all of your classes to succeed. </p>

<p>City Learning Quarter, Old Hall Street, Wolverhampton and community locations across the city.</p>

How will I learn?

<p>All sessions will be delivered face-to-face.  </p>

<ul>

<p>You will need to attend for 1, 2, 3, or 4 sessions per week depending on your course </p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>You will work in groups, pairs, and individually </p>
</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>
<p>Paper-based and online activities will be set as homework  </p>
</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>
<p>You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you </p>
</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>
<p>You will take part in one-on-one talks with your teacher to review your progress. </p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>Learning Support is available if you have a learning disability, let us know on your application if you require support.  </p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study. </p>

<p>Regular monitoring of progress will help to identify any support you might need.  </p>

<p>To achieve an Ascentis ESOL Skills for Life qualification, you will take and pass an exam in either reading, writing, or speaking & listening.  </p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>For many students the course is free, Student Services will check your eligibility. </p>

<p>You will need writing materials such as pens, paper, and folders.  </p>

<p>You may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi to enable you to learn at home. </p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>If you are successful in your exams you will receive an Ascentis Award certificate in the level you have studied. This may be in:</p>

<p>• Speaking and Listening</p>

<p>• Reading</p>

<p>• Writing</p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p>You will be able to progress to the next level of ESOL Skills for Life Exams and on to other courses at Adult Education Service. It may also help you find work. </p>
