We are taking applications for ESOL for new students. Please complete the application online and you will be contacted or come into our Open Day on Saturday June 21st. It is free to apply but course fees will be advised once a place on a course is offered if you apply.

Course details

<p>Do you need to develop your English skills so that you can talk to your neighbours, go shopping, help your children with their homework, become more involved in your local community or visit a doctor?? </p>

<p>If English is not your first language and you are a permanent resident in the UK, then one of our ESOL courses is just what you’re looking for! </p>

<p>Our ESOL courses will help you to develop confidence with English, support you with key language skills to help you to get a job and help you to manage your everyday life with confidence.  </p>

<p>We have a range of ESOL courses at centres across the city where you can practise speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and learn the language you will need to interact within your local community and to access training and job opportunities.  </p>

<p>We also offer ESOL for Work pathways. These courses are aimed at non-native English speakers working at Level 1 and above who are looking to improve their English and vocational skills. We currently offer pathways in Care which includes Childcare and Health, Business and Retail. We offer dedicated support to students so that they can progress onto higher level courses, get a good job and lifelong careers. </p>

<p>You will study English in real-life situations and classes will include individual work, group work, pair work, role-plays, discussions and presentations.  </p>

<p>In some of our courses, you will work towards Skills for Life qualifications with support from our experienced teaching staff. </p>

<p>We offer courses from Pre-Entry Level, for learners who are new up to ESOL Level 2.  </p>

<p>Courses are available during the daytime and evening. </p>

Course requirements

<p>No qualifications are needed, however, if you have studied ESOL before it is important to tell us.  </p>

<p>Your level will be assessed, and you will be placed in the right class. </p>

<p>You will need to attend all of your classes throughout the course. </p>

How will I learn?

<p>All sessions will be delivered face-to-face.  </p>

<p>Attend for 1, 2 or 3 sessions per week depending on your course. </p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>Work in groups, pairs or individually. </p>
</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>
<p>Paper-based and online activities will be set as homework to complete on your own from home. </p>
</li>
</ul>

<ul>

<p>You will have an individual learning plan with targets that are personal to you. </p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>1 to 1 talks with your teacher to talk about your progress (tutorials). </p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>Learning Support is available if you have a learning disability, let us know on your application if you require support.  </p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study. </p>

<p>Regular monitoring of progress will help to identify any support you might need.  </p>

<p>To achieve an Ascentis ESOL Skills for Life qualification, you will need to take and pass an exam in either reading, writing or speaking & listening.  </p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>For many students the course is free, Student Services will check your eligibility. </p>

<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders but you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi to enable you to learn at home. </p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>Some of our courses will lead to Ascentis ESOL Skills for Life qualifications - available at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. </p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p>You will be able to progress to the next level of ESOL Skills for Life Exams and on to other courses at Adult Education Service. It may also help you find work. </p>
