Course details

<p>Do you want to work in a business, retail, or office environment? </p>

<p>We offer a range of business courses from Entry Level to Level 2 that will help you reach your goal.  </p>

<p><strong>Preparing to Work in Business and Retail Level 1</strong> is an 18-week course that will prepare you for working in a business or retail organisation. The subjects taught will include understanding business organisations, digital marketing, using different types of computer software, and computer operating systems, and managing and storing information safely on a computer. </p>

<p><strong>Business Level 2 </strong>is a year-long course that will introduce you to key aspects of working in an office and other commercial environments. As well as giving you valuable work and life skills, it will result in a qualification to help you progress to the next level of learning. The subjects taught will include business organisational structures, creating business documents, working with customers, developing communication skills, and digital skills for work.  </p>

Course requirements

<p>Entry to these courses starts with an informal meeting with your teacher and a skills check of your current levels in English, maths, and digital skills. You will need to have a good use of English for each course level. There will be an opportunity to join a separate English, maths, and digital skills class if you do not already have a level 2 qualification in these subjects. </p>

<p>You will need 100% attendance throughout the course to successfully achieve. </p>

How will I learn?

<p>Sessions will be delivered face-to-face. Lessons will include discussions, group activities, tutorials, and practical activities preparing you for a move onto the next level of course or into employment. In addition, there may be online sessions where you will learn to use Microsoft Teams and the opportunity to attend additional workshops to further your skills.  </p>

<p>Learning support is available if you have any learning difficulties, let us know on your application form if you require support with your learning.</p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study in the form of written assignments and/or an external assessment. Your teacher will negotiate assessment plans with you regularly and give you feedback on how well you are doing.  </p>

<p>You will have an Individual Learning Plan to record your targets and progress. You will put together a portfolio of evidence that will be assessed by your teacher and moderated externally. </p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>For many students the course will be free, and Student Services will check your eligibility.  </p>

<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper, and folders. You may be able to loan a laptop and MiFi  to enable you to access the internet to practise at home. </p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>On successful achievement of your course, you will be awarded one of the following: </p>

<p>Gateway Qualifications Award in Business and Retail Entry 3 </p>

<p>Gateway Qualifications Award in Business and Retail Level 1 </p>

<p>Gateway Qualifications Certificate in Business Level 2 </p>

<p>Award in ESOL Skills for Life, reading writing, speaking, and listening</p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p>You may wish to broaden your skills in other areas such as English, maths, or digital skills. </p>
