What the course is about

<p>Under the guidance of our specialist teacher, you will be able to begin your journey into ceramics and pottery work by planning, building and decorating your own amazing garden solar lantern inspired by Moroccan art.</p>

<p>During the course you can explore a range of making and decorating techniques, which may include:</p>

<ul>
<li>Understanding and using equipment safely</li>
<li>Throwing on the wheel, hand building, surface design </li>
<li>Different types of decoration; slip, oxides, glazes and underglazes</li>
</ul>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.</p>

<p>Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.</p>

<p>Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. </p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.<br />
 </p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This is a Beginners course, for those with no experience in the subject (or very basic knowledge), including some memory of the subject from school.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder.</p>

<p>The price of the course includes all materials, glazes, tools and firings. The clay we use during this course is Earthenware and you will be provided with a maximum amount of 12.5Kg for a 10 week course or 6 Kg for a 4/5 week course.  Any additional clay will need to be purchased from S&L. </p>

<p>You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.</p>

<p>We recommend keeping your nails short whilst working with clay.<br />

Long hair must be tied back when using the wheel.<br />
