What the course is about

<p>In your class you will:</p>

<ul>
<li>Work on your reading skills, including reading for meaning, proof-reading and comprehension</li>
<li>Work on your writing skills, including planning your writing, writing for different purposes, spelling, grammar and punctuation</li>
<li>Work on your communication skills including speaking and listening activities</li>
<li>Complete work in the classroom and as homework</li>
<li>Agree a set of personal learning goals with your tutor and work towards a qualification if appropriate</li>
</ul>

<p>This course is paid for by public funding and you will be required to attend regularly and punctually. We will also, where appropriate, help you to improve other skills such as maths, ICT and skills needed for employability.</p>

<p>You will be required to participate in an Admission Session to attend this course. Many courses start in September, but we enrol learners at set times throughout the year. Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>This is a non-accredited course although you may choose to work towards a qualification at the appropriate level. Personal goals for you to work on in class will be agreed with your tutor and these will be reviewed regularly.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This course is for you if:</p>

<ul>
<li>You want to attend a small, friendly class and work at your own pace and level</li>
<li>You want to improve your communication, reading and writing skills for employment and/or personal reasons</li>
<li>You are able to attend every week and complete home study tasks between sessions</li>
</ul>

<p>You do not need any previous experience or qualifications in English to attend this course. <strong>IMPORTANT - On this course it is essential that you attend regularly and complete any homework given. Exam entry is dependent upon full attendance and successful completion of practice papers.</strong> </p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need an A4 folder, A4 lined paper and pens. <strong>The course is Government funded so there is no cost for the course. PLEASE NOTE - If you fail to turn up for an exam you will be charged an exam fee of £30.</strong></p>
