This AgeWell course will help you to explore a variety of painting techniques so that you can create your own piece of work in a fun and supportive beginners’ class. The course is for learners of 60 or over and priority, in the event of limited spaces, will be given to those who live alone.

What the course is about

<p>During this course you will receive both group and individual support from an experienced teacher who will guide you while you explore basic painting techniques. Topics will include:</p>

<li>Basic painting techniques</li>
<li>Learning how to use a colour wash effectively</li>
<li>How to compose a picture for the best effect</li>
<li>How to paint a variety of subjects</li>

<p>You will use real life subjects and photographs to learn to observe shapes and colours, and apply a variety of media such as watercolour, charcoal or acrylics to achieve wonderful effects. All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience. This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.</p>

<p>There are no pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course. </p>

<p> Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you. </p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This is a Beginners course, for those with no experience in the subject (or very basic knowledge) which might include some memory of the subject from school. You must be over 60 years of age and priority will be given to those living alone.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need a notebook and pen. Please bring the following equipment if available:</p>

<li>Paints (any variety)</li>
<li>Brushes (suitable to use with your preferred paints)</li>
<li>Paper, paint board or canvas (see below)</li>

<p>Before buying expensive materials and equipment, please discuss their purchase with your tutor. Advice about appropriate choices will be given during the first session. You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.</p>

<strong>Home study:</strong> you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />
<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
