What the course is about

<p>This course is fantastic for those just starting out. Sessions will include both group and individual support so that you can get started using oil paint.</p>

<p>Topics include:</p>

<li>Discussions about suitable surfaces and brushes</li>
<li>Paint application </li>
<li>Colour mixing </li>
<li>Types of oil paint including water mixable brands</li>
<li>Basic approaches and starting points</li>
<li>Potential subjects such as Still Life and Landscape </li>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.</p>

<p>Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.</p>

<p>Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.</p>

<p>This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course. </p>

<p>There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.</p>

<p>Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.</p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This is a Beginners course that has been designed especially for those aged over 60 years - you will be expected to have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge of the subject.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder. </p>

<p>You should also bring any relevant art materials that you have available to the first session, but before buying expensive materials and equipment please discuss their purchase with your tutor.</p>

<p>Some of materials you can bring , if you already have them , are: </p>

<li>Any oil paints you may have</li>
<li>Any small bottles of oil painting medium</li>
<li>A suitable palette</li>
<li>Oil painting brushes</li>
<li>Oil painting paper / small canvas / panel</li>
<li>Rag for wiping brushes</li>
<li>Pencil and paper</li>

<p>You are advised to wear old clothes or an overall to protect your clothes.</p>

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
