What the course is about

<p>Week 1 Develop self-awareness. Understand yourself and your thoughts and feelings, know what you are good at, know how you prefer to learn, understand your knowing, reactions and attitudes. </p>

<p>Week 2 Manage feelings. Develop self-regulation and make the choices that are right for you.</p>

<p>Week 3 Empathy. Recognise and understand the feelings and mood of other people and understand life from another&#039;s point of view.</p>

<p>Week 4 Building family resilience. Understand what resilience is, identify the resilience skills we use and discuss strategies that can be used when faced with challenges. </p>

<p>Week 5 Positive parenting. Understanding child development and develop a positive approach to parenting.</p>

<p>Week 6 Look after yourself so you can look after your children even better.</p>

<p>Week 7 Help everyone in your family to manage stress levels.</p>

<p>Week 8 Social skills Confident parent, confident child. Develop the skills to work and play together and form friendships, improve family communication and build confidence, resolve conflicts, stand up for yourself and make wise choices.</p>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of discussion, activities and presentation. </p>

<p>Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.</p>

<p>This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.</p>

<p>This course is for parents, grandparents and carers of children under 16. </p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. </p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.<br />

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This course is for parents, grandparents and carers, of children under 16. It is for complete beginners or those who would like to refresh and share their skills.</p>

<p>You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder. </p>

<strong>Fully funded learners:</strong> if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.<br />
<strong>Home study:</strong> you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />
<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
