What the course is about

<p>In this course, you will learn the basics, giving you the skills to knit a pair of booties a hat and a cardigan set. This will include tutoring in different methods of casting on and off to suit your project best, shaping and fit advice as well as stitch techniques. </p>

<p>The sessions may cover; </p>

<li>how to hold your needles and yarn</li>
<li>casting on and off</li>
<li>knit and purl stitches</li>
<li>making simple patterns using knit and purl stitches</li>
<li>increasing and decreasing</li>
<li>how to follow a pattern and what the most frequently used abbreviations mean</li>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.</p>

<p>Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.</p>

<p>Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.</p>

<p>This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.</p>

<p>There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.</p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This course is suitable for beginners.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>Depending on the age of the baby you wish to knit for (0-3, or 3-6 Months) you will need approximately 200g of baby-safe yarn such as cotton, bamboo, superwash merino or baby acrylic yarn (avoid mohair, eyelash or &#34;fluffy&#34; yarns as these often shed and are not safe for babies unless you wish your items to be worn by a doll). </p>

<p>You will also need three buttons, knitting needles suitable to obtain the gauge for your chosen yarn, embroidery scissors or yarn snips, a tapestry needle, stitch markers and a tape measure. </p>

<p>You may also wish to bring a notepad and pencil.</p>

<strong>Home study:</strong> you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />
<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
