What the course is about

<p>During this course you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about interior design. Alongside classroom delivery there will also be the opportunity to visit the local John Lewis store where samples and the expert knowledge of the design team will inform course content. </p>

<p>Topics that may be covered include: </p>

<ul>
<li>Develop your creativity and personal response to colour, texture, light and surfaces </li>
<li>Choose a colour scheme and learn how colours can affect the planning of a room</li>
<li>Design and plan a simple room using colour, furniture and texture</li>
<li>Produce simple drawings and mood boards to show finishes, fittings, fabrics and basic lighting techniques for your design </li>
<li>Explore current trends in interior design </li>
</ul>

<p>In doing so you will be able to experiment with some of the aspects involved in interior design and start to understand how to plan a space effectively.</p>

<p>You will be encouraged to experiment with your ideas and explore working with new and vintage or recycled materials if appropriate. </p>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading, and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. </p>

<p>Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community.Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. </p>

<p>Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience. </p>

<p>This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course. </p>

Pre-course information session or interview

<p>As well as being delivered at the Dolphin Centre you will also need to travel to the John Lewis store Address: Retail Park, Redlands, Branksome, Poole BH12 1DN. Your tutor will discuss the dates of the store visit or visits as appropriate.</p>

<p>Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you. </p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. </p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. </p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This is a Beginners course, and you will be expected to have no experience in the subject, or very basic knowledge of the subject including some memory of the subject from school. </p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder. </p>

<p>During the first session your tutor may discuss additional materials to bring if possible. </p>
