Get Ready for Functional Skills English

<p>This course is for anyone who is interested in completing a Functional Skills English course. You will study:</p>

<ul>
<li>How to write in different genres, e.g. letters, forms, emails.</li>
<li>How to use the language of persuasion in your writing. </li>
<li>How to develop your reading comprehension by answering questions about a text. </li>
<li>How to listen to others, ask questions and speak in front of a small group. </li>
<li>You will also work on some maths skills as part of this course which include integrating numbers into different writing genres, e.g. recipes, instructions, or narrative writing. You will also learn about positional language as part of speaking and listening tasks. Maths will also be embedded through discussions and problem solving tasks linked to mathematical language. </li>
</ul>

<p>You may like to complete an English Admission Session before joining this course. If appropriate, you may like to complete this course before joining your English Functional Skills course. This course will provide you with a sound grounding before beginning Functional Skills English. </p>

<p>This course does not have a final assessment or exam. You will be asked to complete short comments in an ILP (Individual Learning Plan) to show your progress through the course. </p>

<li>You want to attend a small, friendly class and work at your own pace and level</li>
<li>You want to improve your communication, reading and writing skills for employment and/or personal reasons</li>
<li>You are able to attend every week and complete home study tasks between sessions</li>
</ul>

<p>You do not need any previous experience or qualifications in English to attend this course.</p>

<p>Please ensure you have a notepad and pencil or pen with you. </p>
