What the course is about

<p>This course will enable you to learn new or develop existing ICT skills, develop your understanding of the use of ICT both at home and in the workplace. Using Microsoft software you will develop skills including the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This course will run for 24 weeks.</p>

<p>Dependent on the level you are working at, you will develop new skills in some of the following areas: presentation software, using email, word processing software, using the internet, spreadsheet software.</p>

<p>You will also use a variety of learning activities which will be include tutor demonstration, individual and group exercise, discussion, practical demonstration and work-based scenarios. You will also work through activity sheets and other resources, designed to support the development of skills in each of the areas and prepare a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your newly gained skills.</p>

<p>You will develop a personal learning plan with your tutor, based on the results of an initial assessment of your current skills, which will allow you to work towards the level most suitable for you. As a result, there will be a mix of full class teaching, and periods of individual activity as learners in the class work on their own areas of need.</p>

<p>Regular home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course. You will be supported to develop good study skills.</p>

<p>If you have chosen to study this course online then you will need to have: a PC or laptop (a smart phone or tablet is not sufficient) reliable internet access, a camera and microphone.</p>

<p>Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. This will include assessing your current skills and planning learning activities related to your subject that are designed to develop your skills in these areas.To support this, you may undertake some e-learning modules, where appropriate, as homework.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>There is no qualification for this course.</p>

<p>You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop; this will be reviewed at regular intervals.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>You do not need any previous qualification in ICT to take this course , but you do need to be confident with using a mouse and keyboard and have experience of using Microsoft Office software.</p>

<p>Outside the class you will need access to a computer with Microsoft Office and an internet connection. The library has computers that can be booked if you do not have access to one at home.</p>

<p>Courses will be run on computers with Windows 10 as the operating system and Office (365) software.</p>

<p>We have a variety of IT qualification courses available and you may be uncertain about the differences between these. This course does not have any exams and you produce work on a weekly basis that shows you are learning new skills. Your tutor will mark your work and provide feedback to you so you can see your progression.</p>

<p>There is an expectation that if you enrol on this course, you are willing to commit fully to the period of time involved in this course, the associated home study.</p>

<p>Knowledge of English language at Level 1 is required for this course. If English is not your first language you may need to provide proof of an English language qualification or complete a Skills Check prior to enrolment.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>To gain full benefit from the course you will require access to a PC, and the internet, to practice in between classes.</p>

<p>There may be further materials you could obtain to further support your study. You will be guided by your tutor prior to any purchase.</p>

<p>Please note anything provided is on loan to you and must be returned at the end of the course.</p>
