What the course is about
<p>This is a good starting point if you want to develop skills for job roles helping adults and for those taking their first steps in developing counselling skills. You will develop a range of skills, personal qualities and attitudes essential in the use of counselling skills.</p>
<p>The course will cover:</p>

<li>Work within the limitations of the helping role</li>
<li>Establish boundaries for helping work</li>
<li>Communicate empathic understanding</li>
<li>Focus on the client’s agenda</li>
<li>Understand the importance of self-awareness in helping work</li>
<li>Use listening and responding skills</li>
<li>Use review and feedback to develop initial counselling skills</li>
</ul>
<p>This course will improve your acquisition of skills for personal satisfaction, training, employment or self employment. This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.</p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course. This course is an introductory course and is strongly advised if you are considering applying for Level 2 Counselling Skills. </p>
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop and review your progress throughout the course. This course is not appropriate for people with emotional distress.</p>
Materials and costs
<p>You will need a pen and paper plus a folder to keep your work in. If you are applying for an online course, you will need access to a laptop and access to Microsoft Teams. </p>
