What the course is about

<p><strong>Please note, all the information below regards Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy. This is a waiting list for the next available course, by registering your interest in this course, we can contact you with details about the next available course and invite you along to admission sessions so you can start learning as soon as possible. The bulk of admission sessions take place in the Summer and longer courses typically start in the Autumn, but we do offer shorter more intensive courses throughout the year and can plan additional courses when we know there is demand for them.</strong></p>

<p><strong><u>The course</u></strong></p>

<p>This course will enable learners to gain the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order to provide nail technology treatments using <strong>one</strong> of the following systems:</p>

<ul>
<li>Liquid and Powder</li>
<li>Gels</li>
<li>Wraps</li>
</ul>

<p>With the other learners in your class, you will cover the following units :</p>

<ul>
<li>Provide Manicure Treatments</li>
<li>Provide Pedicure Treatments</li>
<li>Provide and Maintain Nail Enhancements</li>
<li>Provide Nail Art</li>
<li>Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon</li>
<li>Client Care and Communication in Beauty Related Industries</li>
<li>Working in the Beauty Related Industries</li>
</ul>

<p>A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work. Where relevant, your learning will enable you to develop skills and knowledge required for work. <p>Regular home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course. You will be supported to develop good study skills. Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. There may be the opportunity to undertake a work placement during your course. Full details will be shared at induction.</p>

<p>If you have declared at enrolment that you are unemployed, you may be invited to meet with an Information, Advice and Guidance Officer or employability member of staff, to identify other learning opportunities that will support you to secure employment or improve your employment prospects. We highly recommend that you engage fully in any other learning opportunities that we help you identify.</p>

<p>This is a vocational course leading to a qualification, and the cost of it is subsidised by public funding. You will be required to complete all of the necessary coursework/assignments or exams by the given deadlines.</p>

<p><strong>Please note: if you do not successfully complete the course within this academic year, you will not be able to repeat it at the subsidised fee.</strong></p>

<p>You will be required to attend an Admission Session prior to enrolling on this course. If you have any certificates for qualifications in this subject area, or for English or Maths, please give details of these in your application. At this session, you will receive:</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>This is a Level 2 examination course. Examination dates will be given to you by your tutor at the start of the course and may fall outside of the scheduled class times. Course work is also required to be completed during the course.</p>

<p><strong>Awarding body:</strong> ITEC<br />
<strong>Assignments/Course work:</strong> There will be a mixture of assignments, case studies as part of your portfolio of evidence. These will be set and marked by your tutor/assessor and will be externally verified by the ITEC examiner.<br />
<strong>Examination(s):</strong> Your Practical skills will be assessed by a practical examination conducted by an ITEC examiner. You will also take a multiple choice theory test for some units.</p>

<p>You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop; this will be reviewed at regular intervals. <strong>Please note this qualification must be completed within the deadline set. It may be possible to re-sit the examination within the academic year at an additional fee.</strong></p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>We have designed this course to support you with working in the Beauty sector. Successful completion of this course will provide the skills and knowledge required for job roles in Beauty Therapy working as a Nail Technician.</p>

<p>There is an expectation that if you enrol on this course, you are willing to commit fully to the period of time involved in this course, the associated home study and the assessed work required, and intend to sit the examination if applicable.</p>

<p>English language and/or maths skills at Level 1/Level 2 are required. You may be asked to complete an online assessment in English (and maths if applicable) prior to submitting a course application or as part of an admission session.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>A text book, set of towels, tunic, and a kit containing all essential items will be provided for you whilst on the course, in order for you to be able to practise outside the classroom at no extra cost.</p>

<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE anything provided is on loan to you and must be returned at the end of the course. If it is not returned you will be invoiced for the full cost of a replacement.</strong> There may be further materials you could obtain to further support your study. You will be guided by your tutor prior to any purchase.</p>

<p>There are opportunities for employment for Nail Technicians in beauty salons, health clubs, spas, cruise liners, in a home salon or mobile.</p>

<p>You may wish to consider Level 3 Nail Treatments, Level 2 Beauty Specialist Diploma or a level 3 Massage Diploma. Alternatively, you may be interested in a Level 1 Introduction to Hairdressing or a Level 2 Hairdressing Diploma. Other courses may be offered by Skills & Learning or other local providers.</p>
