What the course is about
<p><strong>Please note, all the information below regards Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy. This is a waiting list for the next available course, by registering your interest in this course, we can contact you with details about the next available course and invite you along to admission sessions so you can start learning as soon as possible. The bulk of admission sessions take place in the Summer and longer courses typically start in the Autumn, but we do offer shorter more intensive courses throughout the year and can plan additional courses when we know there is demand for them.</strong></p>
<p><strong><u>The course</u></strong></p>
<p>The main aim of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is to enable learners to gain the practical and theoretical skills necessary to provide Sports Massage Therapy. With the other learners in your class, you will cover the following 5 mandatory units:</p>
<ul>
<li>Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage</li>
<li>Principles of Health and Fitness</li>
<li>Professional Practice in Sports Massage</li>
<li>Understand the Principles of Soft Tissue Dysfunction</li>
<li>Sports Massage Treatments</li>
</ul>
<p>A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work. Where relevant, your learning will enable you to develop skills and knowledge required for work. There may be vocational specialist guest speakers, or employers, invited to share their skills and experience. Regular home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course. </p>
<p>You will be supported to develop good study skills. Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. This will include assessing your current skills and planning learning activities related to your subject that are designed to develop your skills in these areas. To support this, you will undertake some e-learning modules, where appropriate, as homework. If you have declared at enrolment that you are unemployed, you may be invited to meet with an Information, Advice and Guidance Officer or employability member of staff, to identify other learning opportunities that will support you to secure employment or improve your employment prospects. We highly recommend that you engage fully in any other learning opportunities that we help you identify.</p>
<p>This is a vocational course leading to a qualification, and the cost of it is subsidised by public funding. You will be required to complete all of the necessary coursework/assignments or exams by the given deadlines.</p>
<p><strong>Please note:</strong> if you do not successfully complete the course within this academic year, you will not be able to repeat it at the subsidised fee. </p>
Pre-course information session or interview
<p>An Application process is applicable to this course. English language skills at Level 1 are required. You will be asked to complete an online assessment in English after submitting a course application.</p>
<p><strong>Please note</strong>places on some of our courses will be in high demand and if you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately, as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner (see Additional Information below). Assessment of progress, tests, exams
<p>This is a Level 3 examination course. Examination dates will be given to you by your tutor at the start of the course and may fall outside of the scheduled class times. Course work is also required to be completed during the course. As soon as your certificate is received by Skills & Learning, it will be forwarded to you.</p>

<li><strong>Awarding body:</strong>VTCT (ITEC)</li>
<li><strong>Assignments/Course work:</strong> You will need to provide evidence of case studies (treatment evidence). You will also complete written assignments.</li>
<li><strong>Examination(s):<strong> </strong></strong>Assessment of practical skills is by way of a practical examination conducted by an ITEC examiner. Some units will include a multiple choice online exam.</li>
</ul>
<p>You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop and will be reviewed at regular intervals.</p>
<p><strong>Please note</strong> that this qualification must be completed within the deadline set. It may be possible to re-sit the examination within the academic year at an additional fee .</p>

<p>We have designed this course to support you with working in the sports therapy sector. Successful completion of this course will provide the skills and knowledge required for job roles in sports massage therapy.</p>

<p>There is an expectation that if you enrol on this course, you are willing to commit fully to the period of time involved in this course, the associated home study and the assessed work required, and intend to sit the examination if applicable. </p>
<p>English language skills at Level 2 are required. You may be asked to complete an online assessment in English (and maths if applicable) prior to submitting a course application or as part of an admission session.</p>
Materials and costs
<p>Resources required to achieve your qualification: Essential: You will need a pen and pad, and a folder for your own work and any information given. You will also need a uniform consists of plain black polo shirt, black trousers, black socks or tights, and black fully enclosed shoes. You tutor will give further advice on these at the admission session or the first session of the course. <strong>Please do not make any purchase prior to the start of the course</strong>. There may be a requirement to obtain course books or other resources to support your study.</p>
<p>You will be guided by your tutor prior to any purchase. You will need to take out a suitable student insurance policy (approximately £25) - details will be available at the admission session. Learners practise on each other initially but later will be required to bring clients to sessions. A nominal charge is made to clients for each treatment and a tariff is available on request. You will need to consider how you will travel to sporting events to provide treatments. A set of towels and oils will be provided for you whilst on the course, in order for you to be able to practise outside the classroom at no extra cost. You will be required to launder towels between sessions. There may be further materials you could obtain to further support your study. You will be guided by your tutor prior to any purchase.</p>
<p><strong>Please note</strong>, any equipment provided during your course is on loan to you and <strong>MUST BE RETURNED</strong> at the end of the course. If it is not returned you will be invoiced for the full cost of a replacement.</p>

Next Step
<p>Successful completion of this Diploma enables learners to operate their own Sports Massage clinic, or home visiting practice, or to apply for employment in gyms, health clubs, sporting facilities, or spas. You may like to consider a further Sports Massage qualification at Level 4, or other complementary therapy courses covering Aromatherapy, Hot Stone Massage or Indian Head Massage.Other courses may be offered by Skills & Learning or other local providers.</p>
