<p>1 - Using devices and handling information </p>

<p>Know differences between desktop, laptop and smart devices </p>

<p>Know about e-mail, word-processing, presenting </p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Change settings like display, sound, Wi-Fi, time, language, accessibility </p>

<p>Files – create, open, edit and save </p>
</li>

<p>Create and format text e.g. bold, underline, italics, font sizes, text alignment, bulleted lists </p>

<p>There are no entry requirements for this course other than an enthusiasm for learning about the digital and computing world.</p>
Assessment of progress, tests, exams
<p>The course will have an externally set and marked onscreen / online assessment which will be available on demand. The assessments will be pass / fail in line with the other Functional Skills qualifications.</p>
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
<p>This an entry level course suitable for those with limited experience of digital devices.</p>

<p>Key questions for potential learners to consider might be: </p>

<p>Have you done a previous course with Skills and Learning? Learners may well have completed our IT for Beginners course. </p>
</li>
</ol>

<li>
<p>Do you have any previous experience of using computers? Learners suited to this course may have some experience of using computers but are unlikely to have used them at work on a regular basis. </p>
</li>
</ol>
<ol>
<li>
<p>Do you have your own device? Learners are likely to have a digital device such as a phone or tablet; they may or may not have a laptop or PC. </p>
</li>
</ol>
<ol>
<li>
<p>Do you have your own e-mail account? Learners already with an e-mail account might be beyond this IT Beginners course and may be suitable for this one or the higher Level 1 course. </p>

<p>Do you bank online? Learners with this level of competence should probably be directed to the Level 1 course. </p>

Materials and costs
<p>The course will be taught in an IT classroom but learners can bring their own devices to work on if they wish.</p>

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
