What the course is about

<p>This course is for owners of Android phones such as Samsung or Xiaomi phones.</p>

<p>You must choose the separate Master your iPhone or iPad course if you own an Apple product instead.</p>

<p>This course has 6 weekly sessions of 3 hours each. </p>

<p>The content covered is: </p>

<ul>
<li>Understanding the basic functions of smartphones and tablets.</li>
<li>Charging, turning on/off, putting to sleep/waking and initial setup for the first time.</li>
<li>Changing your ‘settings’ and dealing with notifications.</li>
<li>Using email</li>
<li>Using the camera to take pictures and movies and how to share them with friends and family.</li>
<li>Adding new apps and setting them up</li>
<li>Adding, removing and grouping icons into folders.</li>
<li>Understanding online safety and privacy.</li>
</ul>

Pre-course information session or interview

<p>Learners do need any academic qualifications or work experience to do this course and we expect that everyone who applies will be welcomed on the course if there is enough space. </p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>This course does not result in a qualification and therefore there is no coursework or exam. The tutor will talk to each learner and give them tips to improve their tablet and smartphone usage as we go along. </p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to use their tablet or smartphone better. </p>

Materials and costs

<p>Learners will need to bring their own Android tablet or smartphone to sessions as these are not provided. Learners need to come along with their username and password for their device as these will be required to make changes to the set up of learners’ devices. We obviously do not know learners’ log-on details and so learners who don’t bring these along will not be able to fully participate in sessions. </p>

<strong>Home study:</strong> you will&nbsp;be required to do significant&nbsp;study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
