What the course is about
<p>This 24 week course covers word-processing e-mail, internet, presentation tools, and graphic tools. </p>
<p>The course results in an NCFE Level 2 Certificate. </p>
<p>To achieve this qualification, you will need to complete the following six mandatory units:</p>
<ul>
<li>Introduction to Cyber Security (L/618/1181)</li>
<li>Understand Terminology Used in Cyber Security (R/618/1182)</li>
<li>Understand Legal and Ethical Aspects of Cyber Security (Y/618/1183)</li>
<li>Understand Common Threats to Cyber Security (D/618/1184)</li>
<li>Understand Methods of Maintaining Cyber Security (H/618/1185)</li>
<li>Working With Others in Cyber Security (K/618/1186)</li>
</ul>
<p>This course is delivered online and assessment will be made by the completion of a portfolio where you will evidence your understanding of the content of the course. This qualification is designed for learners who want to gain knowledge of coding. The qualification may also support progression into further study in coding or other topics within the digital sector. A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work. You will also work through activity sheets and online resources designed to support the development of skills in each of the modules. Regular home study will be essential to successfully complete this course. You will be supported to develop good study skills.</p>
<p>Please ensure you have access to a PC or laptop (a smart phone or tablet is not sufficient), reliable internet access, a camera and microphone. Your PC/laptop needs to have one of the following operating systems: Windows 10 or Windows 8 and Mac OS 10.14+ and in addition, 3GB RAM and 3 GB freespace HDD (as a minimum).</p>
<p>Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. This will include assessing your current skills and planning learning activities related to your subject that are designed to develop your skills in these areas.</p>
<p>To support this, you will undertake some e-learning modules, where appropriate, as homework. Achievement at Level 2 reflects the ability to select and use relevant knowledge, ideas, skills and procedures to complete well-defined tasks and address straightforward problems. It includes taking responsibility for completing tasks and procedures and exercising autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance.</p>
<p><strong>This is a course leading to a qualification.</strong> This course is paid for by public funding and you will be required to complete all the necessary coursework/assignments by the give deadlines.</p>
<p><strong>Please note:</strong> if you do not successfully complete the course within the period of the course, you will not be able to repeat it at the subsidised fee.</p>

<p>You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop; this will be reviewed at regular intervals. <strong>Please note that this qualification must be completed within the academic year. It may be possible to re-sit the examination within the academic year at an additional fee.</strong></p>
Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
<p>This qualification is aimed at an individual looking to gain a greater understanding or build upon their existing knowledge of Cyber Security issues.This will likely be with a view to studying the subject at a higher level and/or seeking employment in a Cyber Security related role. There are no specific entry requirements for the qualification, however a Level 1 or a Level 2 in IT would be advantageous.</p>
<p>Key questions for potential learners to consider might be:</p>

<p>Have you done a previous course with Skills and Learning? Learners would need to have completed our Digital Functional Skills Level 1 course as a minimum. This course probably best sits after the Leel 2 Advanced IT course. </p>

<li>
<p>Do you have Level 2 qualification in English and Maths? Learners on this course are likely to have Level 2 qualifications in at least one of English and Maths. </p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Do you have your own device? Learners on this course should definitely own their own device and this should ideally be a laptop or PC not just a phone or tablet. </p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Do you have any previous experience using computers at work? Learners suited to this course are likely to use computers regularly in their working life. </p>

<p>Please bring an A4 folder, paper and pen to each session for notes and handouts. You will need to practise your IT skills between sessions. A discussion with the course teacher during the first session is advisable before purchasing any new IT equipment/software. <strong>PLEASE NOTE – anything provided is on loan to you and must be returned at the end of the course.
