<p>This course will help you build the skills you need to find a job and communicate at work in the UK.</p>

<p>You will learn how to speak, listen, read, and write in work-related situations, and understand different types of jobs and workplaces.</p>

<strong><u>Communication Skills for Work</u></strong><br />
You will learn how to:</p>

<li>Write simple work-related documents and complete forms</li>
<li>Communicate with colleagues and managers clearly</li>
<li>Take part in conversations in the workplace</li>
<li>Listen carefully and respond to questions</li>
<li>Use appropriate language in different work situations </li>
</ul>

<p><strong><u>Understanding the World of Work</u></strong><br />
You will learn about:</p>

<ul>
<li>The benefits of having a job</li>
<li>Different ways of working (e.g. full-time, part-time, self-employed)</li>
<li>Types of jobs and work sectors</li>
<li>Matching jobs to your skills and interests</li>
<li>Where to get help and advice about employment</li>
</ul>

Pre-course information session or interview

<p>This is a direct enrolment course, so you do not need to attend an admissions session before starting.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<ul>
<li>There are no formal exams</li>
<li>You will build a portfolio of evidence with support from your tutor</li>
<li>Your tutor will help you collect and organise your work to show your progress and achievements</li>
<li>Assessment will be based on practical activities linked to real-life work situations</li>
</ul>

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
