What the course is about

<p>This friendly course is for anyone who is thinking about doing a Functional Skills maths qualification, wants to brush up their skills and learn at their own pace.</p>

<p> You will learn:</p>

<ul>
<li>Tricks and tips to improve your mental maths skills</li>
<li>How to do maths calculations</li>
<li>How to complete maths problem solving tasks</li>
<li>How to answer maths questions involving graphs, time, shape, etc.</li>
</ul>

<p>We understand that some learners are nervous about beginning a maths course and this short course is ideal for those wishing to gain confidence before beginning Functional Skills Maths. </p>

Pre-course information session or interview

<p>You can apply directly for this course or you may want to enrol for one of our Maths Admissions sessions first to talk to an adviser.  This course will provide you with a sound grounding before beginning Functional Skills Maths. </p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Taking the Functional Skills exam is optional on this course. If you feel ready and your tutor agrees you are ready, you may want to take the exam or continue to learn at your own pace for a while. You will be asked to complete short comments in an ILP (Individual Learning Plan) to show your progress through the course. </p>

<p>You do not need any previous experience or qualifications in Maths to attend this course.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>If you have opted for an online course, you will need access to an up-to-date computer or laptop as well as a good internet connection. Please ensure you have a notepad and pencil or pen with you during your classes.</p>

<strong>Home study:</strong> you will&nbsp;be required to do significant&nbsp;study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
