What the course is about

<p>With the other learners in your class you will study fundamental ideas, scientific investigations and data.</p>

<p>You will carry out practical experimentation and will learn how to plan effectively, write up your findings, analyse data and evaluate your work.</p>

<p>A variety of learning activities will be used on this course, including tutor presentation and demonstration, practical application of skills, individual and group work, discussions, Q&A, internet research, individual research and project work. Where relevant, your learning will enable you to develop skills and knowledge required for work.</p>

<p>Regular home study will be necessary to successfully complete this course. You will be supported to develop good study skills.</p>

<p>Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. This will include assessing your current skills and planning learning activities related to Biology that are designed to develop your skills in these areas. </p>

<p>This is a vocational course leading to a qualification and the cost of it is subsidised by public funding.You will be required to complete all of the necessary coursework/assignments or exams by the given deadlines.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>This is a Level 2 examination course. Examination dates will be given to you by your tutor at the start of the course and will fall outside of the scheduled class times. These are national exams and the dates are fixed. You must ensure you can attend the specified exam location on the exam dates provided. Regular homework is also required to be completed during the course.</p>

<li><strong>Examinations:</strong> Two examinations each of 1 hour and 45 minutes</li>

<p>You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop; this will be reviewed at regular intervals.</p>

<p><strong>Please note that this qualification must be completed within the deadline set. It may be possible to re-sit the examination within the academic year at an additional fee.</strong></p>

<p>We have designed this course to support you either with gaining a qualification for further study in the field of science. Successful completion of this course will provide skills and knowledge required for further study towards job roles in teaching and health care.</p>

<p>This course is suitable as a good base for anyone wishing to pursue a career which requires an initial qualification in a science subject.</p>

<p>English language and maths skills at a minimum of Level 1 are required. You will be asked to complete an online assessment in English and maths as well as submitting a course application.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>You should bring A4 paper, a folder, pens, pencils and ruler to each session. Your tutor will advise you if a text book is required. </p>

<p>It will help your progress if you have regular and reliable access to the internet. If you do not have a PC at home, you can use the facilities at your local library.</p>
