Have you ever wanted to save a favourite item of clothing from the bin, or add a little personalised flare to something lurking unloved in the back of a wardrobe? This course will teach you to mend holes in knitwear by using decorative darning. We will also be using simple hand embroidery technique.

What the course is about
<p>During this course you will receive both group and individual support in order to help you learn more about darning and mending clothes with simple embroidery.</p>
<p>Topics could include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Decorative fabric patches – If you have a lonely, patterned sock and a pair of ripped jeans combine them to make something unique.</li>
<li>If you have a boring pair of shorts you rarely wear, or a t shirt that’s extremely comfortable but has a stain you do not like. Learn how to use simple embroidery techniques to give them a new lease of life.</li>
<li>Patching and darning by hand using yarn and a needle you can transform a moth-eaten jumper into a work of art. Darning can be used to create subtle patches if you use a matching yarn or use contrasting yarns to create a patterned piece to leave you with something unique.</li>
</ul>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
<p>This is a beginner's course, and you will be expected to have no experience in the subject, or very basic knowledge of the subject. </p>
Materials and costs
<p>Material, a selection of threads, yarns, and needles will be provided but if you have a particular item of clothing at home with a small rip or hole that you want to mend, please feel free to bring it in, along with the correct colour of thread to match the item or any complementary colours you wish to use. If you have a favourite embroidery hoop or a darning mushroom these may be useful, but we will have some available.</p>

<strong>Home study:</strong> you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
