What the course is about

Crochet is a type of needlecraft in which you use a hook to create fabric from loops of yarn. Crochet can be used to make everything from blankets and scarves to hats and sweaters. If you’re looking for a fun, creative way to spend your free time, crochet may be the perfect activity for you! During the course you will learn the basic crochet stitches and how to get started on creating your very own simple cotton beach bag.

Sessions may include:

Basic crochet stitches.

Following a written pattern.

Working in the round.

Finishing techniques.

This course is open to all but will be most beneficial to those who can crochet a chain stich and double crochet with an even tension.

Depending on your pace of crocheting you may need to complete some of your bag at home, either between the sessions or when the course has finished.

Materials and costs

There will be crochet hooks available for you to use during the course - these will be standard 4.5mm hooks and are for use on the course but not to take home. You are more than welcome to bring your own hook if you have one that you like to use and would be needed if you wish to practice/complete some crocheting at home between sessions.

A selection of double-knit (DK) cotton yarn in a variety of colours will be available for you to choose from. You will be allocated 1 ball of yarn each session and that will be yours to use and take home and keep, however if you have a favourite DK or Aran cotton yarn you wish to use you are welcome to bring that along.

We recommend you bring a spare hook (4.5mm) or safety pin to save and take home any unfinished work. This will allow you to continue at home.
