What the course is about

Tunisian crochet is an exciting and unique craft, sometimes described as a cross between knitting and crochet. Tunisian crochet is fast to work up and creates a lovely cosy fabric with some stretch.

In this course, you will learn a variety of Tunisian crochet techniques. To start with you will make sampler stitch squares that can be combined to make a cosy Tunisian baby blanket or you can replicate these squares at home to create a cosy throw.

As you progress your tutor may bring extra projects for you to enjoy.

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This course is suitable for those who are completely new to Tunisian crochet. Having some experience with either crochet or knitting might be an advantage but is not essential.

Materials and costs

You will need to bring hooks, you may be able to start with standard hooks as long as they have longish bodies of consistent-width, hooks with ergonomic handles or mouldings are not suitable for Tunisian crochet. We would recommend starting with a 6.5mm Tunisian crochet hook either a straight hook or those with a flexible extension are fine. You will also need Aran weight yarn 400 yds of Main Colour 200 yds of Colour A 200 yds of Colour B 100 yds of Colour C. You may also wish to bring embroidery scissors or yarn snips, and tape measure.

As you progress and develop other projects may be introduced which may need additional yarn. Your tutor will discuss this with you during the course.

You will also need to bring along a notepad and pen/pencil.
