What is this course about?

We ALL have something to give to our community and exploring volunteering roles can also give you something back. This qualification course will guide you through the benefits of volunteering, volunteering organisations and local opportunities. It will also help you to evaluate and match your skills to the requirements of specific volunteering roles, to understand the regulations and boundaries of being a volunteer and to take part in some exciting local volunteering projects.

Who is this course for?

This short course is designed for people who are currently working in a volunteering role in Haringey or another local borough or for those who wish to explore getting started as a volunteer.

Are there any entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or older by the 31st of August 2023. You will complete an English assessment and need to be working at entry 3 or above.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

You will have a short online, face to face or telephone interview with a tutor where you will discuss your learning aims and needs. If the course is not suitable for you, the tutor will advise you of another course more suitable to your needs at this time.

How will I be taught?

The course will be taught as 'hybrid', meaning you will be able to access the timetabled sessions in class at Haringey Learns or online, depending on what suits your learning style. How you will access the course should be agreed in advance with your tutor. For all learners, the course will consist of input sessions, group tutorials, independent exercises, group tasks and quizzes as set by your tutor. The online classroom will be taught using MS Teams for Education and you will be given support to access your free learner account before starting your course.

What feedback will I get?

Your tutor will provide feedback on an ongoing basis.

Additional information

The course is going to be delivered with both on-site and online sessions. For those already in a volunteering role, they may discuss with the tutor a fast track option where they attend key online sessions but some of the course is carried out via elearning and guided research.

Assessment Method

You will need to complete a portfolio of work which will be assessed by your tutor and verified by the exam board.

Equipment Required

You need reliable access to the internet and have a smartphone or tablet where you will need to download the free software needed to study the online elements of the course. If you do not have a suitable device, you may discuss with the tutor the use of study facilities at Haringey Learns
