Career Development: Career in Schools: An Introduction to becoming a teaching assistant

<p>This course provides further learning and knowledge, to prepare learners to become a teaching assistant.</p>

<p>Upon successful completion of workbooks learners will gain NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges Level 2 and the Gateway Level 1 Award in Equality and Diversity.</p>

<p>The units of the core vocational qualification include subjects such as</p>

<p>• understanding schools and colleges as organisations.</p>

<p>• children and young people&#039;s development.</p>

<p>• Safeguarding</p>

<p>• Health and safety</p>

<p>communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults</p>

<p>In addition, learners will spend focused time developing their English skills required for a career in schools/ colleges.</p>

<p>This programme is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school or college setting, including: young people (19+), mature learners, parents, volunteers, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.</p>

<p>You must be aged 19 and over by the 31st of August 2025 and be eligible for publicly funded courses. Enrolment is subject to (1) GLA-fundng eligibility being confirmed in respect of residency, income and prior attainment, and (2) initial assessments. Those accepted on the course will have demonstrated through initial assessment:</p>

<p>• Written and spoken English at Level 1 or above</p>

<p>You will learn safely in face-to-face classes.</p>

<p>Your class mates and your teacher will give you feedback about your work which will help you improve.</p>

<p>Your teacher will give you feedback on all submitted assignments.</p>

<p>You will be able to give your views in a feedback form at the end of the course or directly to your tutor or a manager during the course. You may also be asked to participate in surveys for funders or Ofsted.</p>

<p>On successful completion, this course could lead to studying for a Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Learners who are not yet ready to study at Level 3 could enrol on a Functional Skills English. </p>

<p>Towards the end of the course, your teacher will speak to you about your next steps in learning.</p>

<p>As part of your course we may organise trips and othe enrichments activities to assist you with your learning. Trips/ enrichment activities are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.</p>

<p>Your learning will be assessed through speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. You will take part in discussions and chats with other learners and your teacher. Your teacher will give you homework each week.</p>

<p>You will be required to successfully complete workbooks to achieve the NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges Level 2 and the Gateway Level 1 Award in Equality and Diversity.</p>

<p>You will need to come to lessons with pens, a ring binder folder, wriitng paper or a notebook.</p>
