What is this course about?
<p>This course is aimed at adults who wish to develop their Maths skills and take accreditation in Functional Skills maths at Level 1 or Level 2. All exams are held at Wood Green Library but please check on application if the lessons are online or onsite delivery.</p>
Who is this course for?
<p>This course is for adult learners who need to obtain a qualification in Maths to help them progress in work or study.</p>
Are there any entry requirements?
<p>You must be aged 19 or older by the 31st of August 2024. You should have good command of English and study skills. You will be asked to undertake initial assessment in Maths and English. Your Maths level must be at a minimum of working towards Level 1 and the tutor will work with you to discuss which qualification will be your target goal. Your level of English should be assessed at Level 1 or above in order to be able to work through problem solving questions.</p>
Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?
<p>You will have a short interview where you will complete some maths exercises with a tutor to discuss if the course will meet your needs. If the course is not suitable, you will be signposted to a more suitable course.</p>
How will I be taught?
<p>You will be taught through class sessions with a tutor and you will be using both MS Teams and the BKSB website to support lessons and independent study.</p>
What feedback will I get?
<p>You will receive feedback from your tutor and through regular quizzes and submitted work. You will decide individual learning goals with your tutor and see your progress over the term by keeping a folder of work and on the BKSB system.</p>
How will I be able to give my views on the course?
<p>You will be able to talk to your tutor in one to one meetings about your learning during tutorials. Your tutor will ask for your feedback as a group at different times during the session and in course reviews. You will be able to formally record your views on the course at the end by completing an evaluation form. You may also complete GLA & OFSTED surveys.</p>

<p>You will be able to discuss this with your tutor according to your personal work and study goals.</p>
Additional information
<p>It is very important for you to access your classes regularly and complete all homework . If you are unable to access a class, please notify your tutor. If you do not access classes during the first week or fail to attend for two consecutive classes without informing your tutor, you may lose your place of study. You are expected to do a minimum of 5 hours a week self-study outside class time. You are expected to update your tutor about your self-study.</p>
Assessment Method
<p>There is an Initial and Diagnostic assessment before the course and progress checks during the course. There will be mock exams towards the end of the course and a final on-site assessment at Haringey Learns at Wood Green Library before the course end date. Exam results from the final assessment are 4-6 weeks from the date of the exam.</p>
Equipment Required
<p>Some elements of this course will need a tablet or laptop with reliable access to the internet. This course will be supported with 'MS Teams' and BKSB. These are free and we will guide you through downloading and installing on your device. You should also have a calculator, pens, pencils and a folder or note book. You may be able to access some learning on a smartphone but you should discuss this at interview. There is also a study lounge onsite where you can use laptops.</p>
