<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><strong><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Functional Skills English Entry Levels 1 and 2-</span></strong><span style="font-size:10.0pt"> This course is for learners whose first language is English, have a good level of speaking and listening, and want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. </span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">During this course, learners will learn to read straightforward texts encountered in everyday life and work, and develop confidence to read more widely. Learners will also gain skills to write straightforward texts and documents with clarity and effectiveness, and demonstrate a sound grasp of spelling, punctuation and grammar.</span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><strong><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Functional Skills English Entry 3- </span></strong><span style="font-size:10.0pt">This course is for learners who have basic literacy skills and wish to improve so that they can communicate more confidently and effectively in e</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt">veryday life, further study and at work. This course will focus on developing skills in reading, writing and verbal communication with a focus on improving grammar. </span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">This course is ideal for native English speakers as well as learners who have achieved all components ESOL Entry 3. </span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Learners will be working towards a nationally recognised qualification in Functional Skills Entry 3 which includes exams in Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. To be entered for the exams, learners must pass a mock assessment.</span></span></span></p>

An internal mock examination with a pass mark at 75% or above in all components.</span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><u><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Entry Level 1: </span></u><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Read simple sentences in different contexts.<u> </u><span style="color:black">Understand a short piece of text on a simple subject</span> e.g. an email about an event. Punctuate simple sentences with a capital letter and a full stop. Use a capital letter for the personal pronoun ‘I’ and the first letter of proper nouns. Write the letters of the alphabet in sequence and in both upper and lower case</span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><u><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Entry Level 2:</span></u><span style="font-size:10.0pt"> Use a dictionary or spell-checker to find the meaning of words and check their spelling. Use basic punctuation correctly (e.g. full stops, capital letters, question and exclamation marks<u>)</u>. Acquire an understanding of everyday words and their uses and effects, and apply this understanding in different contexts. Use the first and second letters to sequence words in alphabetical order. Complete a form asking for personal information (e.g. first name, surname, address, postcode, age, date of birth). Write sentences using common conjunctions (e.g. or, and, but). Change singular words into plural.</span></span></span></p>
