<p>Life Skills classes are ideal if you are an adult aged 19+ with a learning disability. The focus is on the preparation for adulthood, independent living and moving you closer to employment.</p>

<p>Practical activities could include cooking, arts & crafts, citizenship, exploring your community, English, maths and digital skills. Activities will focus on keeping yourself safe, healthy eating, travel planning, time management, being part of your community, managing healthy relationships and improving your work ready skills. We will work with you to create a programme of courses that meet your needs and aspirations.</p>

<p>Using English maths and digital skills well is an important part of independent living, and these subjects will be embedded into your learning. You will improve the skills needed for everyday life; build your confidence, problem solving, teamwork and creative thinking skills. Courses will help you to think about your future options. </p>

<p>Enrichment activities are a big part of learning at Adult Education Wolverhampton so that you get an opportunity to practice the skills you learn in class.</p>

Course requirements

<p>You do not need any qualifications, but we would like you to have the willingness to learn and progress.</p>

<p>To apply you will need to:</p>

<ul>
<li>Have a learning disability</li>
<li>Attend every session to get the most out of your learning</li>
<li>You will need to speak to one of our teachers, or to a member of the Student Services team and you may want to bring someone to support you for a face-to-face meeting</li>
</ul>

<p>We may ask you to complete some starting points activities, to determine your current skills and what you need to work on</p>

How will I learn?

<p>You will take part in projects, group, and individual activities, with support from your teacher and support worker. You will have access to appropriate learning resources and a learning environment suitable to your individual needs.</p>

<p>In addition, there may be online sessions where you will learn to use Microsoft Teams.</p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Assessment takes place throughout the year to monitor your progress and to help us identify any areas where you may need support.</p>

<p>You will have an individual learning plan (ILP) that will be completed by you, your teacher and your employer and record your goals and achievements. You will also receive regular feedback and advice from your teacher.</p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>Courses are free. You may also be eligible for support towards travel costs and resources. Student Services will be able to advise.</p>

<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders but you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi dongle to enable you to learn at home</p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>These are non-qualification programmes, but you will gain the skills to move you closer to independence. </p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<p>If you wish, you could also progress on to other Life Skills courses including one of our supported employment courses, or progress to other courses with Adult Education. We also have a wide range of creative courses, which might interest you.</p>
