Course details

<p>Do you want to develop your creative passion by learning how to create your own professional looking flower arrangements and displays?</p>

<p>Would you like to be self-employed or work in the creative industries?</p>

<p>We offer a range of courses from Entry Level to Level 2 that will help you reach your goal.</p>

<p><strong>Floristry – an introduction</strong> is a short course suitable for beginners. It will provide you with an introduction to the key aspects of working with flowers. It will give you the opportunity to learn skills such as gift wrapping, making bouquets, tied bouquets and cone wraps. You will also work with plants and arrangements and learn different bow making styles. </p>

<p><strong>Floristry Level 1</strong> is a year-long course that will provide you with a more in depth introduction to the key aspects of working in the floristry industry. It will give you the opportunity to learn skills such as gift wrapping and making a variety of bouquets. You will also work with plants and arrangements and learn how to care for them. </p>

<p><strong>Floristry Level 2</strong> will help you to further develop your creative passion and gain the skills needed to work in the floristry industry. You will have the opportunity to create contemporary and traditional flower arrangements, create your own ideas using floral art skills, make exciting floral table decorations and research the craft industry organisations. At Level 2  you will explore the more advanced skills needed for wedding and funeral arrangements. A portfolio must be produced for this qualification.</p>

<p>You will have the opportunity to explore opportunities for employment and self-employment</p>

Course requirements

<p>Entry to these courses starts with an informal meeting with your teacher. You will need to have a good use of English for each course level. There will be an opportunity to join a separate English and/or maths skills class if you do not already have a Level 2 qualification in these subjects.</p>

<p>You will need 100% attendance throughout the course to successfully achieve.</p>

<li>Many students will be able to access financial support e.g., course fees, resources, travel, childcare, laptop loan</li>

<li>You will be given a FREE Microsoft 365 account including access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint</li>

How will I learn?

<p>Most sessions will be delivered face-to-face. There will be planned lessons, discussions, group activities,  research, tutorials, and demonstrations followed by practical activities giving you the best experience tp prepare you for a move onto the next level of course or into employment. In addition there may be online sessions where you will learn to use Microsoft Teams.  Up to 25% of your course will be independent learning that will involve you carrying out activities outside of the classroom.</p>

<p>Learning support is available if you have a learning disability, let us know on your application if you require support.</p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study in the form of written assignments and the production of a range of items. Your teacher will negotiate assessment plans with you on a regular basis and will give you feedback on how well you are doing.</p>

<p>You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress.</p>

<p>There are no examinations as you will put together a portfolio of evidence that will be assessed by your teacher and moderated externally.</p>

Are there any additional costs?

<p>For many students these courses will be free especially if you are unemployed. Please contact Student Services to check your eligibility for funding.</p>

<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders and you will need to provide your own flowers and floristry resources, the teacher will advise you in your first session. If you do not have a computer or laptop but need to use one for your learning you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi dongle to enable you to learn at home.</p>

What qualification will I get?

<p>On successful achievment of your course you will be awarded one of the following:</p>

<p>NCFE Entry Level Award in Creative Craft</p>

<p>NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Craft</p>

<p>NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Craft</p>

<p>NCFE Award in Investigating Enterprise Skills Level 1 (for students studying Level 2 Creative Craft)</p>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<li>Progression to the next level creative craft course.</li>
<li>You may wish to broaden your skills in other areas such as English, maths or digital skills.</li>
<li>Successful achievement of the may lead to a variety of employment opportunities including:

<li>Florist (£13,000 to £24,000)</li>
<li>Wedding planner (£17,000 to £29,000)</li>
<li>Self-employed florist (£ variable)</li>
</ul>
