Course details

<li>The Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (BSL) introduces learners to basic communication skills in BSL for everyday situations.</li>
<li>Designed for anyone who wants to communicate with Deaf people using simple, everyday BSL vocabulary, phrases and sentences.</li>
<li>Provides foundational skills in both BSL production (signing) and reception (understanding).</li>
</ul>

Course requirements

<ul>
<li>You must be aged 19 or over.</li>
<li>An initial assessment will ensure you join the right level.</li>
<li>Suitable for complete beginners with no prior BSL experience needed.</li>
<li>Learners must have sufficient vision, manual dexterity and facial/body movement to produce and receive BSL.</li>
<li>Regular attendance and independent practice recommended.</li>
</ul>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

<li>Internally assessed by your tutor and externally verified.</li>
<li>Assessment includes short practical demonstrations and conversations in BSL.</li>
<li>No written exam required—assessment is entirely practical.</li>
</ul>

Are there any additional costs?

<li>Course fees may apply, depending on eligibility.</li>
<li>No specialist equipment required.  </li>
<li>You may wish to bring basic stationery.</li>
</ul>

What qualification will I get?

<p>Signature Level 1 Award in British Sign Language (RQF)</p>

<li>Deafblind Communication qualifications</li>
