<p>Are you interested in working in the Health and Care sector either with children or adults?</p>
<p>AEW offer a range of courses from Entry Level to Level 3 that can help you reach your goals.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>ESOL for Work in Care</strong> is delivered at Entry 3. These courses will introduce you to the key aspects of caring for adults and children while you continue to develop your English language skills. The inclusion of digital skills will prepare you for work in the modern world. You will find out what working in care roles are all about includiing person-centred care, safeguarding, healthy eating and drinking and team working.</p>

<p><strong>Preparing to work in Health and Social Care Level 1</strong></p>
<p>This Level 1 programme of learning is aimed at those who want to work in the health and social care sector. It will provide you with the basic care knowledge and skills, confidence, communication, ICT, and study skills needed to give you the best chance of employment and progression onto the Care Certificate which your employer will require you to study and achieve once employed. You will be studying:</p>
<ul>
<li>Introduction to the adult social care sector</li>
<li>Introduction to the values and principles of adult social care</li>
<li>Awareness of the skills and attitudes needed to work in adult social care</li>
<li>Awareness of communication in adult social care</li>
<li>Awareness of the role and responsibilities of the adult social care worker</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Certificate in Skills for Working in Health Level 2</strong></p>
<p>This course will help you to gain the skills to work in a variety of Health Care-related jobs or to progress to a Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma course and then to university. At the end of this course, you will gain the Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Working in Health, Lifestyle and Science Industries. This qualification has been developed in conjunction with employers, training providers and subject matter experts to best support you.</p>
<p>Subjects you will study include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Biology – diet and nutrition and cardiovascular system </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Psychology – introduction to psychology, social psychology and an introduction to understanding mental health </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Healthcare - communication in healthcare practice </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Core Skills – essay writing, academic referencing and presentation skills </li>
</ul>
<p> </p>
<p>To achieve this qualification, you will need to complete 25 credits and be able to attend for 2 days per week. You can also study English and maths alongside this course if you do not already have a Level 2 qualification in these subjects.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Access to Higher Education Diploma Level 3</strong> – Health pathway is a year-long course that will provide you with all the skills and knowledge you need to go to university to study for a degree in a health related area but don’t have the qualifications.</p>

Course requirements
<p>Entry to these courses starts with an informal meeting with your teacher. For the ESOL for Care course you will need to be on an ESOL L1 course. For the Level 1 courses you need to be working at a Level 1 for English. For working in Health, you need to be working at Level 1 in English and maths. For Access to Higher Education Diploma Level 3 you need to be working at Level 2 in English and maths.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>If you do not have a qualification at Level 2 in English, there will be a short skill check to see what level you are working at.</p>
<p>There will be an opportunity to join a separate English, maths and digital skills class if you do not already have a Level 2 qualification in these subjects.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>You will need 100% attendance throughout the course to successfully achieve.</p>

How will I learn?
<p>Most sessions will be delivered face-to-face. There will be planned lessons, discussions, group activities, research, tutorials, and practical activities giving you the best experience and prepare you in the best way for a move onto the next level of course or into employment.</p>

<p>Up to 25% of your course will be independent learning that will involve you carrying out activities outside of the classroom.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Learning support is available if you have a learning disability, let us know on your application if you require support.</p>

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study in the form of written assignments. Your teacher will negotiate assessment plans with you on a regular basis and will give you feedback on how well you are doing.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress. There are no examinations; you will put together a portfolio of evidence that will be assessed by your teacher and moderated externally.</p>
Are there any additional costs?
<p>For many students the course will be free. Please contact Student Services to check your eligibility.</p>
<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders but you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi to enable you to learn at home.</p>

<li>NCFE Cache Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care Level 1</li>
<li>Aim Qualification and Assessment Group Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Health Industries</li>
</ul>
<p>Aim Qualification and Assessment Group Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Professionals)</p>
What will I be able to do after this course?
<p>• Progression to the next level care course. Including an Access to Higher Education Diploma at level 3</p>
<p>• You may wish to broaden your skills in other areas such as English, maths or digital skills.</p>
