Course details
<p>This course will help you to gain the skills to work in a variety of Health Care-related jobs or to progress to a Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma course and then to university. At the end of this course, you will gain the Level 2 Certificate in Skills in Further Study in Health. This qualification has been developed with employers, training providers and subject matter experts to best support you.</p>
<p>Subjects you will study include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Biology – diet and nutrition and cardiovascular system</li>
<li>Psychology – introduction to psychology, social psychology and an introduction to understanding mental health</li>
<li>Healthcare - communication in healthcare practice</li>
<li>Core Skills – essay writing, academic referencing and presentation skills</li>
</ul>
<p>To achieve this qualification, you will need to complete 25 credits and be able to attend for 2 days per week.</p>
<p>You can also study English and Maths alongside this course if you do not already have a Level 2 qualification in these subjects.</p>
Course requirements
<p>You will need to complete a starting points activity to check you have the right skills to successfully achieve the course. You will then be offered an interview with a teacher to discuss the course in more detail and how this course will benefit you and your future goals.</p>

How will I learn?
<p>Most sessions will be delivered face-to-face over 2 days per week. There will be planned lessons, discussions, group activities, research, tutorials, and practical activities giving you the best experience and prepare you in the best way for a move onto the next level of course or into employment. Up to 25% of your course will be independent learning that will involve you carrying out activities outside of the classroom. </p>
<p>If you are studying maths and/or English, you will need to attend an additional half-day per week for each subject. </p>
<p>Learning support is available if you have a learning disability, let us know on your application if you require support. </p>
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
<p>Assessment takes place throughout your study in the form of written assignments or presentations. Your teacher will set assignments for you on a regular basis and will give you feedback on how well you are doing. </p>
<p>You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress. There are no examinations; you will submit assignments that will be assessed by your teacher and moderated externally by the Aim Qualification and Assessment Group.</p>
Are there any additional costs?
<p>For many students the course will be free. Please contact Student Services to check your eligibility. </p>
<p>You will need to supply your own writing materials such as pens, paper and folders but you may be able to loan a laptop and a MiFi to enable you to learn at home. </p>

What qualification will I get?
<p>On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the:</p>
<ul>
<li>Aim Qualification and Assessment Group Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Health Industries.</li>
</ul>
What will I be able to do after this course?
<ul>
<li>Progression to a Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma in the Health Professions, Social Science or Social Work.</li>
<li>Progression to a variety of employment opportunities in Health and Social Care including:</li>
