Who is the course for

<p><strong>This is a Skills Assessments session, to help choose the right course for you. Please allow 90 minutes for your assessment.</strong></p>

<li>Please bring
<li>Photographic proof of identity (such as your ID card or passport)</li>
<li>Proof of your immigration status </li>
<li>Your National Insurance Number</li>
<li>Proof of benefits and/or payslips with you to the assessment.</li>
<li>You will do a short assessment to assess your English level.</li>
<li>You will talk to the tutor to find the right class for you.</li>
<li>During this session you can ask the tutor any questions you may have. </li>

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course

<li><strong>This Skills Assessments session</strong> is for <strong>new learners</strong> who wish to join one of our courses.</li>

How will my progress be assessed?

<li>Current ability levels will be checked and you will be told the level you are working at. This will help us identify the correct level and type of course for you to enrol on.</li>

What will the course cover?

<li>There is no qualification as it is a s<u>kills assessment only</u>. Please allow 90 minutes for your assessment.</li>

How will I be taught?

<p>ESOL classes at West Sussex Adult Learning are<strong> free</strong> for adults aged 19 or over on August 31, 2023, who currently live in England and have been resident in the United Kingdom (UK) for at least three full years prior to starting their course.</p>

<p>You will be exempt from the three-year residency requirement if you have:</p>

<li>discretionary leave to enter or remain</li>
<li>humanitarian protection</li>
<li>refugee status</li>
<li>leave outside the rules</li>
<li>leave under one of the Ukraine schemes:
<li>the Ukraine Family Scheme</li>
<li>the Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme (Homes for Ukraine)</li>
<li>the Ukraine Extension Scheme</li>
<li>the husband, wife, civil partner or child (aged 19 or over) of an individual with any of the above</li>
<li>section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016 leave</li>
<li>Calais leave to remain</li>
<li>leave under one of the Afghan schemes:
<li>the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS)</li>
<li>the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP)</li>
<li>British Nationals evacuated from Afghanistan under Operation Pitting or by the UK government before 6 January 2022</li>
<li> If you are an asylum seekers, you are eligible if you have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while your claim is being considered by the Home Office.</li>

<p>Depending upon your circumstances, we will need to see ID and proof of your immigration status, receipt of benefits and income when you enrol. </p>

What will I need to bring?

<li>You may wish to bring a notepad and pen to make your own notes.</li>

What will I be able to do after this course?

<li>You maybe able to enrol onto one of our ESOL courses. Please note the skills assessment does not guarantee you a place on a course.</li>
