ESOL: New to English - Reading and Writing

<p>This is a beginners course. English for those who speak another first language and want to learn English.</p>

<p>This course is for people who have no or very low English reading and writing skills.</p>

<p>By the end of the course, you will be able to:</p>

<p>• speak and listen in simple exchanges</p>

<p>• Understand the English alphabet</p>

<p>• Recognise personal key words</p>

<p>• Recognise signs, symbols and simple key words</p>

<p>Everything is provided but you may choose to bring a pad and pen to make notes.</p>

<p>You and your tutor will agree some targets for you to aim for. Your tutor will support you to achieve your target and discuss how you are doing as the course progresses.</p>

<p>You will receive information and advice about your next steps that could include moving onto the next level ESOL course.</p>

<p>You will have either a face to face or over the phone assessment (often supported by a family members or a referrer) to make sure you join the correct level course.</p>

<p>You will join a small group in a friendly and supportive environment. Interactive learning will take place through discussions, group work, videos and hands-on practice of different tools and techniques.</p>
