What the course is about

During this course you will receive both group and individual support from an experienced tutor who will guide you to use social media and the internet with success and safety. Social media is used for much more these days than just staying in touch with friends and family. You can bag a bargain on Facebook marketplace and discover events taking place on your doorstep, right through to, staying up to date with all your favourite hobbies.

Gain understanding in social media etiquette

All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This course is specifically designed for adults who have a mild to moderate learning disability and may be particularly helpful to those who are working towards gaining independent living skills or when a qualification course is not the right option.

You will need to consider the level of support you may need during the sessions as the course will have one tutor and may have one learning support assistant. This means that one-to-one support may be limited to ensure that everyone gets the help they need. However, we do provide a limited number of spaces so that your carer or support worker can also attend the course with you, should you require. Please inform us when enrolling if you intend to bring your own support so we can accommodate them.

You do not need any previous experience in the subject but should have an interest in your own potential and what life has to offer. You will need to be prepared to take an active part in the sessions and to work in a group setting.

Materials and costs

You will need a notebook and pen.

It would be useful for you to have access to a computer or a smartphone so you can practise what you learn in each session. Alternatively, you can book computer time for free in any of the local libraries.
