What the course is about
<p>To further enhance your practical skills, you will have the opportunity to choose from the following hair and beauty units; <br />
Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector </p>
<p>Presenting a professional Image in a Salon </p>
<p>Optional Units:</p>
<p>Providing Basic Manicure Treatment </p>
<p>Providing Basic Pedicure Treatment </p>
<p>Basic Make-up application </p>

• Underpinning this qualification, you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of each unit.<br />

Pre-course information session or interview
<p>You will be required to attend an Admission Session prior to enrolling on this course. At this session, you will receive:<br />
• Full details of what is covered on the course<br />
• Information as to the pre-requisite skills or qualifications needed prior to enrolling<br />
• Information as to the home study requirements and commitment<br />
• A skills check for English/or maths as appropriate<br />
• Details of learning or financial support that may be available to you<br />
• A skills (trade) test to check basic underlying practical skills and knowledge<br />
There will be an opportunity to ask any further questions you may have. If you have any certificates for qualifications in this subject area, or for English or maths, please bring them with you to the Admission Session. Please note places on some of our courses will be in high demand and if you have been offered a place but no longer require it, please advise us immediately, as you may be preventing another learner from taking the place. Where learners do not attend the first session, without having given prior notice, Skills & Learning reserve the right to offer the place on the course to another learner (see Additional Information below). Assessment of progress, tests, exams
<p>This is a Level 1 assessed course. Once completed, your work will be marked and internally verified. An external verifier from the awarding body will visit to review your work before you receive your certificate. As soon as your certificate is received by Skills & Learning, it will be forwarded to you.<br />
• Awarding body: VTCT<br />
• Assignments/Course work: Your practical skills will be formally assessed throughout the course. You will collect a portfolio of evidence i.e. assignments and written test results, plus other forms of evidence, for example, witness testimonies and photographic evidence.<br />
• Examination(s): There is no final written exam.<br />
You will negotiate a Personal Learning Plan with your tutor identifying the areas you need to develop; this will be reviewed at regular intervals.<br />
Please note that this qualification must be completed within the deadline set. It may be possible to re-sit examinations within the academic year at an additional fee.<br />

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications
<p>There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification.</p>
<p>The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in both hair and beauty and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your own services and to assist others in the salon.<br />
The legislations referred to within this qualification apply to UK learners. For learners outside of the UK, you should familiarise yourself with legislations that may apply to you.</p>
Materials and costs
<p>You are strongly advised to purchase and bring a basic hair and beauty kit with you to class containing the basic elements needed to complete hairdressing and beauty services. Any additional items will be loaned to you for the duration of the session and would need to be returned. If it is not returned, you will be invoiced for the full cost of a replacement.<br />
There may be a requirement to obtain course books or other resources to support your study. You will be guided by your tutor prior to any purchase.
