Pottery Improvers Course - Handbuilding with Hard Slabs

<p>Inspired by the history of English flower bricks (rectangular ceramic containers with holes for displaying flowers), students will design, build and decorate their own flower brick vase over this five week course. We will look at the history of English and European flower bricks as inspiration for our designs, then each piece will be constructed using hard slabs, with students deciding whether to glaze traditionally with cobalt oxide brushwork and a white tin glaze (Delftware), or decorate in a more contemporary style. This course is suitable for those with experience in hand building with clay. The course does not include using the pottery wheel.</p>
