What is this course about?

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">Level 1 is the first step to gaining qualifications which will enable you <span style="color:red">to</span> progress on to higher education or further your job prospects. Level 2 will enable you to progress onto further or higher education and is the standard that most employers look for. </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">The course is split into 2 parts:</span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">Preparing to study Functional Skills maths– will prepare you to study a Functional Skills qualification course. In this time your teacher will also assess you, to see if you are ready for a qualification course. At the end of this course, you will either progress on to the accredited course or you will stay on a tailored learning course for a little longer. </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">Functional Skills Level 1/Level 2 will</span></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif"> give you the skills to use maths effectively in three areas<span style="color:red">: </span> number, handling data and measure, shape and space (MSS). </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">You will be taught by a qualified teacher guiding you through the course.  Your course will be taught twice a week, each class is 2.5 hrs.  </span></span></p>

Who is the course for?

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">For people who want to gain a recognised qualification in maths to allow them to progress to further study, education, or career progression. </span></span></p>

Any previous experience/qualifications you need to do the course

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">You will be asked to undertake an initial assessment online to determine your level.  Please tell us if you have already gained a qualification in maths.  </span></span></p>

What you need to bring with you

<p>You will need a PC or laptop with good Wi-Fi and a webcam or built-in camera.<br />
Please note a mobile phone will not suffice. <br />
Writing implements (including a highlighter) and notebook.<br />
A scientific calculator, 30cm ruler and a protractor (L2 only). </p>

How you will be assessed

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">The three components of the course should give you the skills to use maths effectively in all three elements<span style="background-color:yellow">,</span> </span></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">number, handling data and measure, shape and space (MSS), there will be assessment throughout the classes. </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">The final exam is split into two papers – a non-calculator and a calculator paper. </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">You will travel to one of our exam locations to take the exam. We will provide details in advance to allow you to choose a venue and make travel arrangements.</span></span></p>

How much studying will I need to do outside the lesson?

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">We recommend approximately 2-4 hours per week.</span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Source Sans Pro&#34;,sans-serif">You may be offered revision sessions outside of your course which we encourage you to take up.</span></span></p>
