What the course is about

The Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship (PGTA) empowers schools to proactively recruit and train graduates as trainee teachers. The postgraduate teaching apprenticeships is a school-led initial teacher training (ITT) route that combines paid work with on-and-off the job training.

Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

The equivalent to grade 4 in GCSE English and Mathematics
A degree awarded by a UK higher education provider, or a recognised equivalent qualification
If trainees intend to train to teach pupils aged 3 to 11, they will also need a standard equivalent to a grade 4 GCSE in a science subject

Assessments, tests, exams

Learners will work toward Qualified Teacher Status. There will be an End Point Assessment including an observation of teaching practice.

At the end of the course

Successful candidates will be qualified to teach in UK schools, primary or secondary depending on their specialism.

Assessment Method

Candidates will be supported by workplace mentors progress reviews througout the course once they are recommended for Qualified Teacher Status they will receive an End Point Assessment from an independent organisation.
