This course is for ESOL learners who need to develop their reading and writing with the focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar and to developing their speaking and listening skills and apply these skills in a variety of situations at work, at home and in the community.

Who this course is for

This course is for ESOL learners who need to develop their reading and writing with the focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as basic speaking and listening skills that they want to improve for a variety of situations at work, at home and in the community and Improve grammar and vocabulary, enabling them to speak more confidently and accurately.

What you will learn

By the end of the course the learners will be able to;

<ul>
<li>Read and obtain information from different types of texts such as stories, news articles, adverts, posters, brochures etc.</li>
<li>Read and write about different festivals and days of celebration in the UK.</li>
<li>Plan, write and proofread text about past, present and future events using paragraphs</li>
<li>Plan and write informal letters and emails to make plans, ask for and give information.</li>
<li>Use correct tenses, spelling and punctuation in their writing</li>
<li>Respond to a range of questions about familiar topics</li>
<li>Research and give a short talk/presentation to others</li>
<li>Confidently engage in discussions with others in which they are able to express their views and opinions</li>
<li>make requests and ask questions to obtain information in familiar and unfamiliar situations</li>
<li>Develop vocabulary on a range of everyday topics like jobs, news stories, travel, health, shopping, food, different festivals in the UK, etc. </li>
<li>Participate in role-play based on familiar situations such as meeting new people, going to the doctor’s, shopping for clothes, etc.</li>
</ul>

Learners will be expected to confidently and consistently demonstrate these skills, and others, by the end of the course.

What you can do next

At the end of the course, learners will be able to take a nationally recognised exam in ESOL Entry 3 Speaking and Listening, Reading and/or Writing if they pass a mock exam.
