What you will learn

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><strong><span style="font-size:12.0pt">By the end of the course the learners will be able to;</span></strong></span></span></p>

<ul>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Read and obtain information from different types of texts such as stories, news articles, adverts, posters, brochures etc.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Read and write about different festivals and days of celebration in the UK.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Plan, write and proofread text about past, present and future events using paragraphs</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Plan and write informal letters and emails to make plans, ask for and give information.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Use correct tenses, spelling and punctuation in their writing</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Respond to a range of questions about familiar topics</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Research and give a short talk/presentation to others</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Confidently engage in discussions with others in which they are able to express their views and opinions</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">make requests and ask questions to obtain information in familiar and unfamiliar situations</span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Develop vocabulary on a range of everyday topics like jobs, news stories, travel, health, shopping, food, different festivals in the UK, etc.  </span></span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Participate in role-play based on familiar situations such as meeting new people, going to the doctor’s, shopping for clothes, etc.</span></span></span></li>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Learners will be expected to confidently and consistently demonstrate these skills, and others, by the end of the course.</span></span></span></p>

What you can do next

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">At the end of the course, learners will be able to take a nationally recognised exam in ESOL Entry 3 Speaking and Listening, Reading and/or Writing if they pass a mock exam. </span></span></span></p>
