Description

Weekly exercises and projects to develop confidence with pencil, charcoal and coloured pastels. Suitable for beginners and those wishing to improve. 

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM and WhatsApp.

What can students expect?

Led by an experienced tutor, learners will make rapid progress and explore line, tone, measurement, texture, shading and composition. They will be taught how to ‘look’ and how to interpret what they see. Subject matter will include still life, portrait, landscape, perspective and composition. 

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM and WhatsApp.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

No

What is the progression route?

Learners will see progression from day one. Each term will see a repeat of key exercises with new ideas and personal projects for returners.

Work set between sessions?

No. Preparation for course: Look at drawings made by other artists. Google Images. Jerwood Drawing Prize. Make sketches from observation.

What should students bring?

To the 1st session, please bring:

<li>A pad of tinted ‘pastel’ paper is also useful</li>
<li>Pencils - assorted HB 2B to 6B for example</li>
<li>Charcoal sticks</li>
<li>Charcoal pencils</li>
<li>Rubbers - putty/ ordinary/propelling fine line rubbers e.g.https://www.cassart.co.uk/drawing/accessories_2/rubber/tombow_mono_zero_eraser_slim_striped_barrel.htm?nosto=productpage-nosto-1</li>
<li>Ruler</li>
<li>Masking tape </li>
<li>An apron or old shirt to protect your clothes</li>

Teaching method/style?

By making drawings and then discussing with the tutor how to improve them. By looking at other people’s work. Tutor demonstrations

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
