Description

Practise drawing or painting a figure or portrait from a clothed female model in one continuous pose. All painting and drawing media welcome, but best to use a medium you are familiar with. Some experience of drawing figures/ faces is recommended.

A model fee of £12 to be paid in cash to the tutor at the beginning of the session. 

This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge.

What can students expect?

A relaxed day with the opportunity to get stuck into a serious painting from life, or a fully developed drawing or two. The tutor will give an initial demonstration and guidelines for working from direct observation. He will then give individual feedback and help when needed.

Tables, easels and drawing boards available.

Previous experience required?

Some previous experience of drawing or painting figures (and faces) is advantageous. People seeking a step-by-step basic figure drawing course should consider the I Wish I Could Draw People course.

What is the progression route?

A regular course in Life Drawing course, Drawing Figures in Mixed Media or Portraiture.

What should students bring?

Please bring:

Drawers should bring:

<ul>
<li>2 or 3 sheets of A2 white drawing paper, or a sketch pad</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>Pencil, charcoal or graphite stick </li>
<li>Eraser </li>
<li>Masking-tape or drawing clips or bull-dog clips</li>
</ul>

 

Painters should bring:

<ul>
<li>Usual painting equipment, including the colours: Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber and Orange</li>
<li>An appropriate surface to paint on e.g., canvas, board, paper</li>
</ul>

 

Oil Painters should bring:

<ul>
<li>A canvas, canvas board, or oil sketching paper</li>
<li>Low-odour or odourless thinners (not turps or white spirit)</li>
</ul>

 

Water-colourists should bring:

<ul>
<li>Heavy/strong paper (min 350gsm), or paper pre-stretched on a board, A3 or A2 size.</li>
</ul>

 

Pastellists should bring: 

<ul>
<li>A few coloured sheets of A3 or A2 paper (Beige or grey recommended) </li>
<li>1 or 2 sheets of white paper.</li>
</ul>

Refunds and cancellations

<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
