Description

A five-week gelli printing course that explores colour, layering, texture and pattern, helping learners move from playful experimenting to confident printing and finished pieces.

What can students expect?

Learners will enjoy a structured yet relaxed introduction to gelli printing, exploring colour, layering, texture and pattern using a variety of tools and materials. Beginning with playful experimentation, you will develop skills in paint application, brayer techniques and ghost printing, before moving on to methods such as botanical prints, stencilling, masking and creating layered compositions. Step-by-step demonstrations and guided activities will support you to gain confidence, build control and design intentional prints. By the end of the course, you will have created a series of prints or finished pieces.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

No experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play.

What is the progression route?

Gelli printing or other printmaking courses at Stoke Lodge in the Autumn.

Are there any extra costs?

No. Fee includes materials. Learners may wish to buy their own gelli plates or tools for practice between sessions and are welcome to bring any materials or media they wish to explore with tutor guidance.

Work set between sessions?

There is no formal work between sessions, but learners are encouraged to collect items like leaves or textured materials and to try out or think about their work between sessions if they want to.

What should students bring?

<li>Textured materials (fabric, egg boxes, wallpaper, personal papers, imagery)</li>
<li>Botanicals – leaves or flowers collected from nature (no need to buy anything)</li>
<li>Apron</li>
</ul>

In addition, a notebook may be useful.

Teaching method/style?

Practical, inclusive sessions with clear demonstrations, independent practice, and supportive, personalised guidance.

Equipment Required

Learners may choose to bring their own gelli plates, tools or materials as the course progresses, and may be asked to bring collected or found objects to use in different sessions.

<li>If you cancel 7 days or more before the course start date: Refund issued minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>If you cancel less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: No refund will be issued. </li>

Transfers

<li>Transfers must be requested at least 7 days before the course start date.</li>
<li>A 10% transfer fee applies.</li>
<li>Transfers due to our cancellation of your original course are free of charge. </li>

Illness and Absence

<li>No refunds are available for non-attendance due to sickness or ill health. </li>
