Description

A 2-day summer school for people who want to learn to draw figures, and those who would like to get better at it! Using pencil or/and charcoal, you will draw from photographs in the first session and from a clothed model in the second.

What can students expect?

During the course you will cover:

 

<ul>
<li>Session 1. Proportions of the human body, and the angles of limbs. Seeing shapes objectively, which makes drawing them possible. You will draw figures from photographs mainly of dancers, gymnasts, and athletes.</li>
</ul>

 

<ul>
<li>Session 2. Drawing from a live clothed model, in poses suitable for beginners, you will put into practice principles learnt in Session1, but this time whilst looking at a 3-dimensional body instead of a flat photograph. </li>
</ul>

 

In both sessions, you will also learn to shade a drawing by observing and understanding how light and shade fall on the body

Late starters allowed?

It is a short course, so it is best to attend both sessions to benefit in full.

Previous experience required?

This course is for beginners and those with some experience who would like to improve their skills.

What is the progression route?

Other drawing and painting courses, especially Life Drawing.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners supply own materials, in addition, a model fee of £8 is payable in cash to the tutor at the beginning of the first session.

Work set between sessions?

No

What should students bring?

To the 1st session, please bring:

<li>A normal HB or B pencil </li>
<li>An eraser</li>
<li>Several sheets of A3-size white paper </li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

There will be a short demonstration or two in each session, but you will mainly be drawing, receiving suggestions and feedback from the tutor as you do so.

Equipment Required

See box 8 above. In addition: 

For the second session when we draw from a model

<ul>
<li>Sticky-tape, blu-tac or bull-dog clips</li>
</ul>

 

Optional: charcoal or graphite-stick or coloured pencils.

Refunds and cancellations

<ul>
<li>If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</li>
<li>If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</li>
<li>If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</li>
<li>Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</li>
<li>We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</li>
</ul>

 

If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.

When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.
