Description

An intensive yet relaxed summer school for experienced oil painters, focusing on developing individual projects with expert guidance.

What can students expect?

This Summer School provides a flexible and inspiring environment where you can explore projects that reflect your interests, from portraits and landscapes to still life. A selection of prints will be available, or you are welcome to bring your own work. Techniques will be clearly demonstrated to help you get the most out of each session. You can expect a fun, supportive, and friendly atmosphere, where you can enjoy developing your skills alongside fellow art enthusiasts.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

Yes. This is for experienced oil painters.

What is the progression route?

Learners can enrol on additional oil painting workshops or “Oil Painting – Improvers” courses at Stoke Lodge.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners provide their own materials and equipment.

Work set between sessions?

No.

What should students bring?

<ul>
<li>Odourless paint thinner (e.g. Zest-It or Sansodor)</li>
<li>Linseed oil, Liquin, or other medium</li>
<li>Bristle brushes (various sizes; filbert recommended)</li>
<li>Soft synthetic brushes (for blending)</li>
<li>A4 or A3 oil painting pad (A3 Seawhite recommended)</li>
<li>Two dippers or small jars</li>
<li>Oil paints (set or individual): Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Viridian, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black</li>
<li>Palette (tear-off recommended)</li>
<li>Pencil and eraser</li>
<li>Kitchen roll or rags</li>
</ul>

Avoid low-quality paint sets. Recommended beginner ranges: Winton (Winsor & Newton) or Georgian (Daler Rowney).

Teaching method/style?

Demonstrations, exercises and opportunities for both group and individual tuition and feedback.

Course Cancellations and Refunds

If we cancel your course

<li>You will receive a full refund of course fees.</li>
<li>We are not responsible for any additional costs, such as materials already purchased.</li>

If you cancel

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: refund minus a 20% administration fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
</ul>

Refund processing

<ul>
<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>
</ul>

Transfers

<ul>
<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>

Illness and non-attendance
