Description

A course for beginners and learners with some experience who want to develop their stained glass skills, offering opportunities to explore essential techniques, create original designs, and produce their own stained-glass artwork.

What can students expect?

You will follow a structured course covering the key stages of creating a simple leaded or copper-foiled stained-glass panel, from design and glass selection to cutting, leading, soldering, and finishing. Beginners will develop essential skills and techniques, while learners with some experience can build confidence, refine their skills, and explore new approaches to stained-glass work.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

This is a beginners’ course, although improvers are also welcome.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or join the “Stained-Glass Summer School”. After completing three terms at beginner level, they may progress to “Stained-Glass Workshop. Intermediates/Advanced”.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners will need to purchase materials such as coloured glass, lead, and additional solder and cement for larger panels. Coloured glass can be purchased from the tutor or local suppliers. Costs vary depending on the project, but an A4-sized panel typically costs around £30. Course fees include classroom materials and sundries, such as paper, masking tape, tracing paper, glass cleaner, kiln shelf paper, solder, fluxes, white spirit, patinas, and glass paints.

Work set between sessions?

No specific homework is set, although learners may wish to research techniques online, develop sketches and designs between classes, or source materials from local suppliers to support their projects.

What should students bring?

<li>Coloured art materials for design work (if available)</li>
<li>Two or three design ideas, such as sketches, doodles, postcards, photographs, magazine images, or pictures from art books</li>

Teaching method/style?

Teaching will include demonstrations, individual support, group discussion, and the use of books, photographs, and sample pieces.

Equipment Required

Equipment and tools are provided. The tutor can advise learners who wish to purchase their own equipment.

<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no refund provided.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers

<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
