Description

A course for intermediate and advanced stained-glass learners looking to take their skills to the next level, offering opportunities to explore new techniques, develop craft skills, and work on individual projects.

What can students expect?

You will plan and create a leaded panel or window with one-to-one tuition and support, developing your skills in both design and stained-glass making. You will also learn techniques such as kiln-fired glass painting, staining, enamelling, fusing, slumping, copper foiling, and stained-glass mosaic. You will be encouraged to experiment and create test pieces before applying what you have learnt to your final project.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, however it is recommended you join by the second session to make the most of the course.

Previous experience required?

Yes. A minimum of three terms' study at Beginners level is required to ensure learners have the skills and experience needed to benefit from this course.

What is the progression route?

Learners can re-enrol the following term or enrol on the “Stained-Glass Summer School 2027”.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes. Learners will need to purchase materials such as coloured glass, lead, and additional solder and cement for larger panels. Coloured glass can be purchased from the tutor or local suppliers. Costs vary depending on the project, but an A3-sized panel typically costs around £55. Course fees include classroom sundries such as paper, masking tape, tracing paper, glass cleaner, kiln shelf paper, solder, fluxes, white spirit, patinas, and glass paints.

Work set between sessions?

No specific homework is set, although learners may wish to research techniques online, develop sketches and designs between classes, or source materials from local suppliers to support their projects.

What should students bring?

<li>Sturdy shoes (no open-toe sandals)</li>
<li>Coloured art materials for design work (if available)</li>
<li>Two or three design ideas, such as sketches, doodles, postcards, photographs, magazine images, or pictures from art books</li>
</ul>

Teaching method/style?

Teaching will include demonstrations, individual support, group discussion, and the use of books, photographs, and sample pieces.

Equipment Required

Equipment and tools are provided. The tutor can advise learners who wish to purchase their own equipment.

<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>

Refund processing

<li>Refunds for online or telephone enrolments will be made via the original payment method within 14 days of approval. </li>
<li>If you enrolled in the office, you will need to come in with your payment card to arrange a refund.</li>

Transfers

<li>7 days or more before the start date: transfer minus a 10% transfer fee.</li>
<li>Less than 7 days before the start date or after the course has started: no transfer provided.</li>
<li>All transfers are subject to availability.</li>
<li>Transfers between Language levels may be possible with less than 7 days notice, subject to availability.</li>
<li>Enrolments are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you will not be able to send another person in your place.</li>
<li>If we cancel your course, and you wish to transfer to another course this will be free of charge.</li>
